Statement on Supreme Court’s Failure to Block Texas Abortion Ban

Washington, D.C. — Today, following the Supreme Court’s failure to block a sweeping abortion ban in Texas, Battle Born Collective Senior Advisor Tré Easton released the following statement:

“In the dead of the night, the Supreme Court ended access to legal abortion in this country as we know it, and they didn’t even have to lift a finger to make it happen. It’s the latest example of a right-wing court that is hellbent on dragging the country back to the 1950s. Make no mistake: this is part of a plan, and it’s working.

“On everything from abortion access, to voting rights, to immigration, Republicans are united in preventing progress, aided by radical federal courts transformed during the Trump era. Texas is a model for what an extreme GOP will do to this country if left unchecked, and it’s only going to get worse. The cost of inaction is high and will have ramifications for years to come.

“There is no way to fight back without structural reforms like ending the filibuster and expanding the courts. To do this, we need presidential leadership. For the past decade, Democrats—including President Biden—have campaigned on protecting the right and ensuring access to safe and legal abortion. Democrats have a clear choice: they can prove their commitment to this and so many other vital issues by acting decisively to enshrine these rights into law no matter what. Or, they can let the deluge continue and watch as generations of progress are stripped away bit by bit. It’s truly up to them.”
